As part of a team we were given a brief from Sagentia, a design consultancy. Our task was to design, manufacture and test a device that aids the elderly to pick fruit from their garden trees. During this project I excelled in three ways which importantly led to our team’s success; firstly, being a team project, I understood the importance of having a leader and opted for the role. The two traits that I found particularly helpful to me was my powerful decision-making skills working in harmonisation with a high level of emotional intelligence.Secondly, during the ideation sessions my creativity shone, and I really broadened my ability to translate my unorthodox “out of the box” thinking into realistic design solutions.Thirdly working with the solutions generated development was key for our design to continue through to production. This relied on a good level of technical and manufacturing knowledge to solve manufacturing and usability issues that arose.
