During my first year of A-level I took the opportunity to embark on an extended project qualification.  This is  a self-directed and self-motivated project where I chose a topic, planned, researched and developed an electronic scoreboard. This year long project began with a simple idea to design and make a rugby scoreboard.

This idea was developed further, as I wanted the scoreboard to offer something new. Electronic scoreboards on the market include a radio controlled scoreboard and a controller, however I wanted to produce a cheaper more intuitive option. This led me to app development and the ability to control the scoreboard via Bluetooth. So the project began. Having no experience of app development, Bluetooth technology and the working behind a scoreboard I began to research these fields. Working on this project as an extra circular activity it was important to manage my time effectively. I self taught Basic for android in order to program the app required to control the scoreboard. This was an interesting yet challenging task, however I succeeded and produced a working application for my android device.

The image to the right show an example of the app. The next stage was to produce the relevant circuit boards to run the scoreboard. With help from an expert in the field, we produced the PCB and I populated the boards with the necessary components. Once this board was created I had to program the processor in the circuit board to work in alliance with the mobile application. This was an extremely challenging task and at times required help from my expert.
